2023

Become a member of Shanghai Advanced Nuclear Energy Committee for Future Industries.

Win the bid for China Southern Power Grid’s procurement project for high-performance YBCO high-temperature superconducting materials, which are to be used in a 10MJ high-temperature superconducting magnetic energy storage system. This project is part of National Key R&D Program of China.

2022

Large-scale purchase order from Energy Singularity and completion of the first phase of delivery in 2023 for the R&D and construction of the world’s first fully high-temperature superconducting tokamak device.

Obtain a procurement order for the Institute of Plasma, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and complete delivery in 2022. The tapes are utilized in the 24.1T fully REBCO high-temperature superconducting magnet, which is the first fully REBCO tightly wound superconducting magnet with a capacity exceeding 20T in China. Shanghai Superconductor provides all the superconducting tapes for this application.

Led by Shanghai Superconductor, three scientific and technological research and development projects, including “High Current Density High-Temperature Superconductor Technology for Strong Magnetic Technology”, successfully pass the joint acceptance inspection organized by the expert group of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

Shanghai Key Laboratory of High-Temperature Superconducting Materials and Applications passes the acceptance inspection.

2021

Win the bid for the procurement project of superconducting coil for the electric aircraft at University of Lorraine in France. It is the first project that Shanghai Superconductor has won internationally.

The company's project “Key Technologies for the Preparation of High-Temperature Superconducting Tapes and Industrialization” has obtained certificate for scientific and  technological achievement.

Awarded the titles of Shanghai “Specialized and Innovative” small and medium-sized enterprise and special and innovative “Little Giant” enterprise by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

2020

Secure an order for superconducting magnet to be used in small-scale MRI imaging equipment from the University of Cambridge and complete delivery in 2021. This is the first magnet order for Shanghai Superconductor in the international market.

Sign a cooperation framework agreement with Jiangxi Lianovation Superconductor Company to supply superconducting tapes in batches annually. The tapes are utilized for the world’s first megawatt-level high-temperature superconducting induction heating device, which was successfully put into operation in 2023.

Win the bid for the second-generation high-temperature superconducting tape procurement project for Shanghai Jiao Tong University and complete delivery in 2021. The tapes are used in CRRC’s high-temperature superconducting electric maglev project, which completed its first trial operation in 2023. It is China’s first high-temperature superconducting electric levitation all-factor experimental system.

Receive large-scale purchase order from ZTT and complete delivery in 2021 for the Southern Power Grid's 10kV three-phase coaxial high-temperature AC superconducting cable demonstration project. Successfully tested in 2021, it is the world's first superconducting cable demonstration project applied in high-load density power supply areas.

Awarded the title of “Shanghai Key Laboratory of High-Temperature Superconducting Materials and Application Technology” by Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

Establishment of the Pudong New Area Enterprise Postdoctoral Research Station - Shanghai Superconductor Technology Co., Ltd. Branch.

2019

Receive a large-scale purchase order from Shanghai Cable Research Institute and complete delivery in 2020. The company’s superconducting tapes are used in China’s first 35-kV kilometer-scale high-temperature superconducting cable demonstration project, which successfully went into operation in Shanghai in 2021. This project features the longest and largest-capacity 35-kV fully-commercialized high-temperature superconducting cable in the world.

Win the bid for China Southern Power Grid's YBCO superconducting tape procurement project and complete delivery in 2020. The tapes are used in the 160kV DC superconducting fault current limiter project, which is part of the National Key R&D Program of China. Successfully grid-connected and tested in 2020, it is the world's highest voltage level and largest capacity DC superconducting fault current limiter.

Receive large-scale purchase orders from UK Tokamak Energy and MIT-CFS in the development of high-field magnets for controlled nuclear fusion.

Provide high-temperature superconducting tapes to the team at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in the development of the end coil for a 32.35T all-superconducting magnet, setting a new world record.

Completion of the first long-tape coating experiment on domestic 30-micron thin substrate, accelerating the research process for substrate localization.

Shanghai Superconductor key material and application industrialization base project achieves results appraisal.

2018

Hold “Shanghai High-Temperature Superconductor Conference 2018”.

Become a member of the National Superconducting Standardization Technical Committee.

2017

Win the bid for the YBCO high-temperature superconducting tape procurement project for Beijing Jiaotong University and complete delivery in 2018. The tapes are used for Zhongtian Technology's 220kV AC resistive-type superconducting fault current limiter project, which is part of the “National 863 Program” and passed acceptance in 2018.

Another order from UK Tokamak Energy, commencing bulk supplies to international nuclear fusion projects.

2016

Secure procurement contracts from Germany KIT, UK Cryogenic Ltd, Switzerland PSI, and UK Tokamak Energy.

Begin to explore the international market.

Win the bid for the YBCO coated conductor-material procurement project for the China Southern Power Grid and complete delivery in 2017. The tapes are used in the high magnetic field area at the ends of the coils for the first domestically developed 500kV superconducting fault current limiter. Passed acceptance in 2017, the project is the first application of domestically produced second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes in large-scale superconducting power equipment in China.

Attend the ASC (Applied Superconductivity Conference) as the only domestic supplier of second-generation high-temperature superconducting tapes participating in the exhibition.

As a highlight project of Shanghai, SST’s technological achievements are selected and unveiled in the National “12th Five-Year Plan” Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievement Exhibition.

2015

Win the bid for the YBCO superconducting tape procurement project for superconducting magnets at the Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and complete delivery in 2016. It is Shanghai Superconductor's first successful bid in China, marking the beginning of its official sales activities.

Awarded the title of “High-tech Enterprise”.

2014

Building of Shanghai Superconducting Zhangjiang High-tech Park.

The research and development center is gradually coming into use.

2013

Successfully achieve the autonomy of the second-generation high-temperature superconducting tape production equipment.

Successfully fabricate the first kilometer-scale second-generation high-temperature superconducting tape in China.

Complete the fabrication process of superconducting tapes based on substrate technology and layout the proprietary equipment.
